Jackie Tohn. The Tohnerino. The Tohnmeister. The Tohnster. The Tohnorama. Makin’ muuuuusic. I swear if this girl was a lumberjack instead of an entertainer there’d be no more trees.

To simply call Jackie Tohn a singer/songwriter would be like describing the Rocky Horror Picture Show as a musical. It’s true, but dreadfully misleading. Energy Plus with an affinity for theatrics, little miss facial expressions is a freak for flair– all affects are welcome, and style is more of a fluid concept, rather than a defining characteristic.

The local sings with the power of at least four or five human beings (and i still get the feeling she’s holding back), shes a natural storyteller on stage, she’s gorgeous and she knows it, and she writes songs about men clothing and fish. Her music is pretty pop with a twitch; a paradox of vulnerability and arrogance, honesty and exaggeration, swagger and silliness. Sounds like the perfect woman, doesn’t it?

Tonight she is celebrating the release of her new CD, Beguiling, with a performance at the Hotel Cafe. While this album is clear
accomplishment– Velvet Coat and Places I Can Stand are mind melters
– listening to Miss Jackee (no relation) solely on a recording would be akin to watching a Jello commercial and calling it dessert.

Live is this child’s medium. And until she gets a team of NASA professionals willing to take her to outerspace in an attempt to capture the massive magic of her sound, you best be attending the up close and close version.

Her Again! ‘Idol’ Semifinalist Jackie Tohn Returns With ‘You Again’ Movie Video

Posted Thu Sep 23, 2010 1:17pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks Way back in “American Idol” Season 8 (aka The Best Season Ever), I declared great calculator-watched wonder Jackie Tohn an early favorite of mine. She sadly only made it to the top 36, but I’ve kept my eye on her ever since, [...]

Idol Jackie Tohn’s Got The Memphis Beat

Posted Wed Jul 21, 2010 2:53pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks One of my favorite “American Idol” contestants, delightful Season 8 semifinalist Jackie Tohn, got waaaaay too little screen time last year. But she made up for that this week with her plum role as femme fatale Delilah Boswell on “Memphis Beat,” TNT’s [...]

Blender Magazine – American Idol Recap: New York

1/30/09 by Elizabeth Goodman The first Hipster American Idol could be Jackie Tohn, a downtown girl in beat up Air Jordan’s and a stripy shirt who grew up in the entertainment industry. With her trusty guitar nearby Tohn delivered a version of Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” that made us hate the song slightly less. She’s [...]

American Idol: Let The Voting Begin!

Posted Tue Feb 17, 2009 9:12pm PST by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks Tonight, the chosen 36 semi-finalists started singing for the viewers’ votes, not the judges’ praise, on live television. And this was where the real competition began. The first batch of 12 singers (apparently/hopefully chosen at random) stepped up to the mic, with [...]

On Stage, Jackie Tohn Goes, and Goes….

Improper Magazine – by Keith Gerard If Jackie Tohn lived on a park bench, she would put on shows for the pigeons. She can’t help it. Some people believe there is no such thing as a natural, but Tohn is wired to entertain. The NY native has been that way ever since she can remember, [...]
